CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb dropped its 2023 season opener Friday in women's tennis, falling 7-0 at Charlotte.
The Niners (5-3) won the doubles point, taking a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles and a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for an early 1-0 lead.
Emma Watkins captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles for Charlotte, followed by wins at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-0) and No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1) to clinch the team win.

Manon Delsol, playing at No. 1 singles, put together a battle in the second set to hang tough in the final match of the day, but fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to Ruxi Schech.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Converse (S.C.) University at 2:00 pm in Boiling Springs.
