BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Women's Tennis opened their home slate with a sweep of Converse on Tuesday afternoon. The victory also marked the first win of the 2023 season for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb claimed the doubles point after picking up strong wins on courts 2 and 3.
Manon Delsol and
Katie Watts won 6-1 at #2 followed by
Courtney Fyvie and
Elise Semmartin having a 6-2 decision at #3. The visitors got the win in the doubles topflight on a 7-6 (6) score.
In singles, the 'Dogs picked up a quick pair of points with triumphs from
Emilia Roslund and
Maria Jardim. Roslund won in flight #2, 6-2, 6-0 followed closely by Jardim with a 6-0, 6-2 decision from court #3.
Delsol clinched the team's win in the topflight on a 6-4, 6-3 final scoreline.
Cayline Le Grange also had a straight set victory as it finished at 6-3, 6-4 in flight #5.
A pair of Runnin' Bulldogs overcame first set defeats after losing in the opening set. Semmartin's final from #4 was 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 while Watts' was 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-8 at #6 to close out the GWU sweep.
Gardner-Webb will look to defend their home courts in their next match as they will welcome Limestone to the Webb Tennis Complex on Friday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m.
