BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb defended their home court on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Limestone 6-1. With the victory, the Runnin' Bulldogs stand at 2-1 on the season with both wins coming from the Webb Tennis Complex.
In doubles,
Maria Jardim and
Emilia Roslund held the Saints scoreless in the topflight for the first doubles win of the afternoon. Limestone responded with a 6-1 win on court #3. The doubles point was decided on court #2 as GWU won 7-5 behind the play of
Katie Watts and
Manon Delsol.
Gardner-Webb continued much of their success in singles play as they won five of the six matches with all of these being decided in straight sets. Delsol had a 6-4, 7-5 win on the top court as well. Roslund had a 6-2, 6-1 decision from #2 with Jardim having a 6-1, 6-3 at #3.
Elise Semmartin had a close win at flight #4 as she came away with the 7-6 (5), 7-5 triumph. Watts' match ended at 6-4, 6-3 from position #6.
Gardner-Webb will continue their home stretch as they have three more in Boiling Springs in the next two weeks. They host Elon (2/12), Wofford (2/15), and Queens (2/22).
