
Gardner-Webb Wrestling Begins SoCon Championship Action Saturday In Boone

BOONE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb will send 10 wrestlers into action Saturday at the 2023 Southern Conference Wrestling Championships at the Holmes Convocation Center.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have three men in the top-33 nationally in the latest NCAA Coaches' Rankings and all three earned a No. 2 seed at Saturday's championships. The Southern Conference's NCAA automatic bids are on the line in each weight class.
Two-time NCAA qualifier and defending SoCon champion RJ Mosley enters Saturday's action with a 21-5 overall record and a 7-1 record in SoCon duals this season. He rolled to the 165-pound title last season and will look to repeat in 2023.
Mosley is one of only six returning champions among all SoCon wrestlers.
Jha'Quan Anderson also has 20 wins this season (20-12) at 184 pounds and has NCAA Championships experience himself. Anderson also went 7-1 in SoCon Duals this season and tied Mosley with five major decisions in 2022-2023. He is the No. 2 seed entering Saturday's action.
Newcomer Zach Price is the No. 2 seed at 141 pounds after going 18-5 this season and 7-1 against SoCon competition. The South Dakota State transfer finished the regular season with two pins, two tech falls and four major decisions to his credit.
Sam Mora is the No. 3 seed at 197 pounds and has been a bright spot during his most impressive season wrestling for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Mora has 13 wins overall and went 6-2 against his SoCon foes in dual matches. He finished the season with three tech falls.
Drew West earned a No. 4 seed at 125 pounds and enters Saturday's championship competition with a 21-9 overall record and a 6-2 SoCon ledger. West, a transfer from Northern Illinois, led Gardner-Webb with six pins this season.
Todd Carter has a chance to make some noise at 133 pounds after earning the No. 4 seed in that weight class. The veteran has a 19-12 record this season and scored bonus points in eight bouts in 2022-2023.
Tyler Brignola (157) and Abraham Preston (285) each earned No. 7 seeds in their respective weight classes, with Andrew Wilson (174) and Parker Corwin (149) seeded eighth.
