BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Women's Tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to Presbyterian on Tuesday afternoon to fall to 0-2 as league play starts up.
The Runnin' Bulldogs claimed the early doubles point to gain an early advantage in the match.
Elise Semmartin and
Valeria Lloclla won on court #3 as they swept the match and won 6-0. GWU dropped the decision from position #2 by a 7-5 score. The match came down to a tiebreaker in the topflight with the 'Dogs getting the edge 7-6 (6) with
Manon Delsol and
Emilia Roslund.
Gardner-Webb got the wins in the first two of the day to conclude from courts #3 and 4. Semmartin won hers from position #4 by a 6-2, 6-1 final followed LLoclla on #3 with a 6-1, 6-3 score. With these wins, GWU held a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Hose won the first set in the remaining four matches and were able to get the victory in each of those to complete the comeback and win 4-3 in the conference matchup. The 'Dogs pushed three of them to a third set while the one that ended in straight sets needed a tiebreaker at 6-6 to decide the winner both times.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back on the courts on Thursday to face Campbell in Boiling Springs, N.C. with a first serve slated for 2:00 p.m. This will conclude the first half of league play for GWU as they play their third match in a span of six days.
