BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Women's Tennis picked up their first Big South victory of the year as they defended their home court against Campbell on Thursday afternoon for a 5-2 win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs got the doubles point to start the day.
Maria Jardim and
Courtney Fyvie had a 6-1 win on court #2. The point was clinched by
Valeria Lloclla and
Elise Semmartin 6-4 from position #3. The match in the topflight went unfinished with the score at 6-6.
Emilia Roslund got singles started with a 6-2, 6-4 straight set victory from court #2. The Fightin' Camels tied the match overall at 2-2 as they picked up decisions on courts #3 and #6.
The 'Dogs got wins in the final three matches for the emphatic victory.
Manon Delsol dropped her first set 5-7, but rolled to 6-2, 6-0 scores in the second and third for the win on court #1. Semmartin clinched the team's overall win on court #5 by 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 scores. The day ended with Lloclla winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-5 (3) from position #5.
Gardner-Webb finishes the first half of league play at 1-2 after losing their opening two matches by narrow margins. The Runn' Bulldogs travel to N.C. A&T for a nonconference match on Wednesday. GWU's second half of league play features competitions at Radford (3/18), at UNC Asheville (3/21) and vs Longwood (3/25).
