BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb (2-4) will travel to Furman (4-2) on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup inside of Paladin Stadium in a key Big South matchup. This will conclude a three game series of GWU playing in the State of South Carolina as well.
Offensively, the Runnin' Bulldogs have recently been led by
Bria Foley in the past four games. She has tallied four games in each of them and combined to dish 14 assists across those matchups. Foley finished the Campbell (4/12) and Wofford (4/15) games with five assists each to set a career-high in points with nine, the most by a GWU player in a single game since
Jada Preston in 2019.
Foley leads the team in goals (29) and points (50) and is tied for first in assists (21) with Preston. Preston is next on the team in points with 39 this year as she has scored 21 herself.
Brittany Sherrod is second on the team in goals as she has 21 through 14 games played and started.
Freshman
Emma Duchscherer is third in goals with 19 as she has registered a point in every game so far this season, the only player for Gardner-Webb with that feat. In total, GWU has eight players in double digits for points this year with
Aimie Perino (25),
Alera Cornett (20),
Rylee Gonzalez (17) and
Lauren Connor (15) rounding out the list.
Defensivly,
Heather Lobas and
Grace Briggs have been disrupting opposing offenses all season. Briggs leads the conference in CTs per game at 2.21 which is 12
th in the nation and has scooped 30 groundballs on the season. She has notched 31 caused turnovers on the year, which is tied for second in school history and sits three away from having the solo lead in the category. Lobas is right behind statistically as she has 26 CTs and 24 GBs in 2023.
In the past two games, Gardner-Webb has won the overall draw controls battle with the edge helping push them over Presbyterian last time out. Sherrod has led the team with 52 so far this year with Foley adding 39 and Duchscherer having 25.
In goal,
Danielle Burke has been one of the best goalies in the league yet again as she ranks second in saves per game at 9.07. She is nearing 700 minutes played this year and has faced 403 shots during her time between the pipes
Furman has been led this year by a trio of players in Anna Roser, Meagan Beal and Hannah Dintino with each having at least 39 points on the year. Beal leads them with 46 points, Roser right behind at 40 and Dintino rounding them out at 39.
Katelyn Sousa has been one the Paladins top defenders with 21 CTs and 23 GBs. Lily Rathburn has been their only goalie to play this season posting a 13.19 GAA and a 39.9 save percentage.
