BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team fell to Davidson College at home on Thursday night by a final score of 2-0. Despite a second half push by the Dawgs, a pair of first half goals lifted the Wildcats to the win.
"We have a lot of work to do, and we know that," said head coach Tina Murphy. "It's a new team trying to come together. We need to improve a lot in our fitness base and we knew that coming in. So, we're just going to keep building those pieces."
Davidson tallied goals in the 13
th minute by Riley Patton and in the 23
rd minute by Aleia Gisolfi-McCready. Attacking chances for Gardner-Webb picked up in the second half with shots on goal coming from
Abby Clark,
Julianna Jatkola and
Lina Ullen.
"I was happy that the players responded to what we talked about at halftime," said coach Murphy. "They really were trying to apply those points, so I think it got a lot better. We had quite a few near chances in there. But at the end of the day, you've got to finish those and Davidson finished theirs."
The Runnin' Bulldogs' next match is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 20 at 6:00 p.m. when they travel to the Clemson University.
