CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team was bested by the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday evening by a final score of 5-0.
Lea Gossett generated a shot on goal for GWU while
Jamie Martin made seven saves.
"UNC is unbelievably talented in every single position, they're amazing," said coach Murphy. "It's incredible how quickly and skillfully they play and they immediately in an instant expose any misstep you take. My team fought hard for 90 minutes and I'm very proud of their efforts tonight."
The fourth ranked Tar Heels found the back of the net five times in the match. UNC's five goals were tallied by Tessa Dellarose, Talia Dellaperuta, Melina Rebimbas, Tori Dellaperuta and Kate Faasse.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' next match is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Marshall University.
