SPARTANBURG, SC – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against the Wofford College Terriers on Sunday evening. Late goals in the final 10 minutes by
Abby Clark and
Megan Gettys allowed GWU to draw even before the contest came to a close.
Wofford opened the scoring in the 27
th minute when Megan Childress was able to put their first in the back on the net. Haley McCaffrey tallied the second for Wofford in the 55
th minute just barely getting the ball across the line. Gardner-Webb pressed the attack late in the match until the final whistle. Graduate student forward
Abby Clark was able to cut into the lead in the 80
th minute before sophomore forward
Megan Gettys buried the equalizer on a penalty shot. Freshman goalkeeper
Stephanie Liu tallied 10 saves for the 'Dawgs.
"We kept good possession throughout the game and finally started choosing to shoot in the second half.", said coach Murphy. "Both goals were well earned talented finishes."
The Runnin' Bulldogs return home this week on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6:00 p.m. when they host the Bears of Mercer University.
