BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer fell against the Spartans of USC Update on Saturday evening by a final score of 2-1.
Abby Clark tallied her second goal of the season in the loss.
"Our team worked really hard tonight.", said coach Murphy. "I am just really proud of the them for that. We scored a great goal, and we just came up short in the end."
The match remained scoreless for the first 45 minutes. Graduate student forward
Abby Clark opened the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 51
st minute taking a fast through ball from
Klara Ovefelt and putting it in goal on the left side. Ashley Finn tied the game for USC Upstate in the 64
th minute. USC Upstate earned a penalty shot due to a handball in the 78
th minute that Margret Edda Bjarnadottir put in the back of the net for the game winning goal.
"Good things happen when they shoot.", added coach Murphy. "We just need to generate more shots for the attack that we are creating in the attacking third."
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back home this Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. as they continue Big South play against Presbyterian.
