Perriello Earns Top Finish in Season Opener at Rooney Invitational

Gardner-Webb secures five top-10 finishes
SALEM, Va. – Gardner-Webb Cross Country competed in its first competition of the 2023 fall season on Friday evening with sophomore Jessica Perriello securing a top finish at the Rooney Invitational.
Perriello ran a 19:56 in the women's 5K to finish first overall in the event with the three of the women's team members finishing in the top-10. The Alpharetta, Georgia native was just a minute shy of her personal best in the 5k.
Senior Jennifer Escalera finished 6th at 21:33 and junior Chloe McDaniel finished 8th at 22:14 to round out the top-10.
The men finished third overall at the event with freshman Nathan Cremin leading the team in his debut finishing 6th at 16:47. Sophomore Ryan Morita came across the line in 9th at 17:26. Freshman Austin DeGeorge sparked his 'Dawgs debut finishing 20th at 18:04 while junior Mark Mellon and freshman Kaden Pratt anchored the team coming across in 24th at 18:16 and 30th in 18:44. Junior Cole Ray ended with a time of 20:33.
Runnin' Bulldogs have their next meet at Furman University on Saturday, Sep. 16. at the Furman Golf Club.
