BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's basketball dropped their Wednesday night contest against Radford University by a final score of 80-71. Three different 'Dawgs dropped double-digits while another pulled in 17 rebounds.
Radford was able to build an earlier lead in the first quarter off of solid shooting by Taniya Hanner. The Highlanders led the ballgame 23-12 by the end of the opening period. The Runnin' Bulldogs came back in the second quarter as Michahla Funderburk,
Ashley Hawkins and
Grace Pack began to heat up. The 'Dawgs cut the deficit to 15 as Radford took a 45-30 lead into the break.
Key baskets from
Lauren Bailey and
Andrea Martinez allowed Gardner-Webb to cut the lead to nine and then 10 by the end of the third. With under 5:00 to play in the contest, the Runnin' Bulldogs cut into the Highlander lead several times trailing by as few as eight. Despite solid free-throw shooting by Hawkins, Martinez and Bailey in the final minutes, Radford hung on for the 80-71 win.

Martinez led both teams in rebounding collecting a season high of 17. Three different 'Dawgs tallied double digits in the ballgame with Hawkins leading Gardner-Webb with 20 points. It was her 13
th double digit performances of the season. Bailey (12), and
Nyla Walker (10) joined her scoring double-digits.
