Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at Weather-Shortened Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's golf team collected a 6th place finish in a weather-shortened Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina University on September 30-October 1. The Runnin' Bulldogs fired a 296 (+8) in the opening round before concluding the 36-hole event with a 299 (+11). Their two-round total of 595 (+19) landed them in a two-way tie for sixth.
Senior Neza Siftar continued her stellar play in the fall with a top 10 finish after shooting a combined score of 144 (E). She opened play with a low round of 69 (-3) before carding a 75 (+3) over the final 18. This marks her third finish within the top 10 so far on the year.
Junior Georgia Barr also put together a solid performance, landing just outside of the top 20 after firing a 149 (+5) over two rounds. Barr remained consistent over two rounds, turning in a 74 (+2) in round one followed by a 75 (+3).
Freshman Eva Bulger croosed the finish line just behind in 32nd place with a two-round total of 151 (+7). Bulger was able to post scores of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4).
Senior Kayla Dowell turned in a combined score of 154 (+10) but was able to pick up two strokes from her first round score. After carding a 78 (+6) in the opener, Dowell stormed back with a solid 76 (+6) in the final round.
Senior Vileska Gelpi made the biggest improvement for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Gelpi opened her tournament with a tough 85 (+13) but was able to find her swing over the final 18, shaving an incredible 12 strokes off her score after turning in a team-low 73 (+1).
Gardner-Webb will now have three weeks off to prepare for the Wofford Invitational on October 21-22 in Spartanburg, S.C.
