BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University wrestling team opened its 2024-25 campaign inside Paul Porter Arena on Friday night, coming up short by a 34-10 final score against Purdue

The Runnin' Bulldogs started strong behind a good home crowd on Friday night, taking two of the first three bouts. Redshirt freshman T.K. Davis picked up a win by major decision in the 133 pound weight class, just ahead of graduate student Todd Carter in 141 pounds, who put Gardner-Webb in front 7-6 overall after an 8-7 decision. The visiting Boilermakers did get off the mat to follow however, then taking the next six bouts in a row to build a 30-7 lead. Despite being down on the scoreboard however, the Red and Black scored one last win in the 197 pound class by way of junior Josh McCutchen. The Fitzgerald, Georgia native finished off a 4-3 decision to win his opening bout of the season for Gardner-Webb.

The start to the 2024-25 season continues on Saturday, November 2nd as the Gardner-Webb wrestling team takes part in the Hokie Open, with all day competition in Roanoke, Virginia.
