Hawkins tallies 11 leading the ‘Dawgs in loss to the Spartans
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's basketball team fell the University of South Carolina Upstate on Saturday by a final score of 73-56. Ashley Hawkins led GWU dropping 11 points on the day.
The Spartans of USC Upstate took an early lead over Gardner-Webb sitting up 21-11 by the end of the first 1o minutes. Hawkin s, along with Trinity Moreland and Nyla Walker contributed to keep GWU in the game in the first half. USC Upstate ended up taking 37-18 lead into the break. Lauren Baily and Anaya Harris began to heat up for the 'Dawgs in the second half as Gardner-Webb closed the deficit to 13 points. A three from Michala Funderburk with 5:41 left to go in the game brought Gardner-Webb to within nine points. USC Upstate ultimately pulled away in the closing minutes to earn the win.

Hawkins tallied 11 points and seven assists for the 'Dawgs. Other standouts included Funderburk who dropped nine points all from behind the arch, and Grace pack who scored six points while collecting nine rebounds.
