BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team defeated the University of Rhode Island Rams on Monday afternoon by a final score of 7-4. It was their fifth game over a four day stretch that saw the 'Dawgs add a trio of wins since the start of the Troy Tournament on Friday (Feb. 16-18).
The Runnin' Bulldogs got the bats going early building a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with Araceli Pasqueira scoring
Jailyn Tineo, and Annicka McLaughlan scoring
Andrea Lyon. GWU added to the lead in the second as
Adrienne Visintine hit a two-run bomb to centerfield, and
Taylor Dreher doubled to score Pesqueira.
Trina Van Dyke scored one via a single in the fourth, and Pesqueira added another via a double that scored
Meredith Wayland. The Rams ended up adding four runs to cut into the lead in the top of the seventh.
Elle Doolittle reentered the game to earn the 7-4 win and the save.
