Gardner-Webb Men's Golf Opens Spring Campaign with 10th-place Finish at Wexford Intercollegiate

Sophomore Jack Boyer (+7) ties for 22nd-place among 90 competitors
Hilton Head, S.C. – Gardner-Webb's men's golf team opened its 2024 spring campaign tied with Radford for 10th place at the Wexford Intercollegiate hosted by the Francis Marion University.
The two-day event (Monday 2/19 & Tuesday 2/20) was played on Wexford Plantation – Arnold Palmer Course (par-72; 6,884 yards).
Sophomore Jack Boyer (Greensboro, N.C.) was the top performer for Gardner-Webb with a 54-hole total of 223 (+7) to finish tied for 22nd out of 90 competitors.
Following Boyer in the Top 30 on the leader board for the Runnin' Bulldogs was senior Jules Bondil (Pertuis, France), who shot a 225 (+9) to finish tied for 29th place.
Gardner-Webb graduate senior Max White (Tampa, Fla), who was tied for 61st after the opening round on Monday, rallied on day two to finish tied for 39th with a total of 228 (+12).
Freshman Jack Mikesell (Orlando, Fla) 232 (+16/T-59th) and sophomore Bradley Davis Jr (Mountain Pilot, N.C.) 233 (+17/T-62nd) were also in the Dawgs lineup.
Georgia State (+9) took the team title ahead of second-place South Carolina-Aiken (+13) and third-place East Carolina (+21).
Oscar Abrahamsson of South Carolina -Aiken (E), Georgia State's Connor MacMillan (E) and Mason Tucker of Winthrop (E) finished in a three-way tie on the individual leaderboard.
In addition to the host Patriots (+63), the annual event featured Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, USC Aiken, East Carolina (+21), High Point (+25), Samford (+25), Richmond (+27), Mercer (+28), Appalachian State (+34), Temple ( +36), Radford (+40), Presbyterian College (+49), Winthrop ( +53), Dayton (+59), Xavier (+61), Charleston Southern ( +67) and Cleveland State (+72).
"We had some solid play at times, but a couple of bad holes and some spotty putting kept us from a much better finish," said Gardner-Webb golf coach Tee Burton. "There were some positives, but we have plenty of opportunities to get better before we head to Palmetto in two weeks."
Up Next: Gardner-Webb will compete at the 27th Annual CLEVELAND GOLF PALMETTO INTERCOLLEGIATE on March 4-5, 2024, at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina. Hosted by USC Aiken, on a par-70, 6,617-yard course. Palmetto Golf Club was founded in 1892, making it the second oldest golf club in the country. The Palmetto is known for its unique greens and strategic bunkering.
