
Kim Niethammer Named Big South Tennis Co-Player of Week

Runnin' Bulldogs junior shares award with Presbyterian's Pedro Cardoso.
Charlotte, N.C. – The Big South Conference accolades continue to be compiled this spring by the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team.
Junior Kim Niethammer (Harrenburg, Germany) added to the Runnin' Bulldog's spring total, which now stands at five, as he was named the Big South Tennis Co-Player of the Week.
Niethammer shared the honor with Presbyterian's Pedro Cardoso.
The league announced on Wednesday (2/28). The award is for games played February 19th through February 25th.
Last week, Niethammer posted a 2-0 mark at singles No.4 to help the Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 9-2 on the season.
After dropping a heart-breaking 4-3 decision at Elon Thursday, Gardner-Webb exhibited the mental fortitude of a champion as the Dawgs bounced back with a gutty-gritty 4-3 win over host Campbell Saturday at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
Niethammer was instrumental in the Gardner-Webb bounce back against the Camels as the Harrenburg, Germany native dominated Campbell's Tomas Balazi in straight sets on Court No.4 (6-3, 6-1).
Last Thursday, the visiting Dawgs dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to a good Elon squad, but Niethammer was once again a bright spot.
In the final match on Court No.4, Niethammer prevailed over the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Juan Sengariz 6-7 (7), 6-3, 7-5.
Niethammer is unbeaten (10-0) this spring in singles competition and 30-3 over the past two spring campaigns.
