BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's basketball team was dominant in their Wednesday night game against the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College winning by a final score of 86-57. The 'Dawgs scored a season high of 86 points on their way to a
"I give our players a lot of credit.", said coach Merritt. "They did a great job of staying locked in to the game plan. I think it all stemmed from us being locked in defensively. It made hard for them to score. Besides a three-to-four-minute span in the second quarter I think we did a great job defensively tonight."
The Runnin' Bulldogs came out of the gate shooting going on a 17-11 run in the opening 10 minutes. The quarter was highlighted by threes from Michala Funderburk,
Grace Pack, and
Anaya Harris. The threes kept falling in the second for Gardner-Webb as they built a nine-point lead midway through the quarter. Presbyterian's Natalie Herrin allowed the Blue Hose to briefly get back into the ballgame taking a 31-28 lead at the 3:38 mark. The 'Dawgs drained a trio of threes to take a 39-31 lead into the second half. Gardner-Webb added to their lead in the third quarter as
Lauren Bailey and
Ashley Hawkins began to heat up. The 'Dawgs led by as much as 25 points with 2:42 left in the third. The shots kept falling down the stretch for GWU as Hawkins, Bailey, and Harris punctuated the ballgame building the lead back to 29 by the final horn. With 1:32 left in the game Funderburk hit her seventh and final three-pointer going perfect on the night. Gardner-Webb was victorious 86-57.

Gardner-Webb tallied a season high 86 points on the night. Funderburk led the 'Dawgs with a season and career high 21 points going 7-7 on the night all from beyond the arch. Three more Runnin' Bulldogs joined her dropping double-digits on the night with Harris and Pack scoring 16, and Hawkins with 15. Hawkins posted her 18
th double digit performance of the season. She continues to lead the roster in scoring with 325.
