LUBBOCK, Texas – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team fell the #18 Texas Tech University Red Raiders by a final score of 10-7. The Runnin' Bulldogs kept up the pressure with late game runs despite the loss.
Gardner-Webb struck first in the ballgame thanks to
Alec Burns hitting his first homerun of the 2024 season to rightfield putting the 'Dawgs ahead 2-0. Texas Tech responded in the game by getting across two int eh second, three in the third, and another in the fourth. Despite trailing, Gardner-Webb fought back as
Humberto Torres score on an error in the sixth, and
Wade Kelly also scored int eh same way in the seventh. The Red Raiders held a 10-4 lead in the eith inning, but that did not stop the Runnin' Bulldogs from surging late in the game putting up three runs thanks to Kelly,
Lawson Knight,
Mark Black,
Ryan Kennell, and
Matt Ilgenfritz. They were able to cut the deficit to 10-7, but it was too little, too late on the evening.
Gardner-Webb will continue its road series against Texas Tech on Saturday, March 2 when they take on the Red Raiders at 3:00 p.m.
