CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team picked up two more wins to extend their winning streak on Friday defeating Kent State 6-4, and North Carolina Central 11-3. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied 17 runs in two games winning their second of the day via run rule.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning with
Taylor Dreher,
Emily Garcia,
Jailyn Tineo Meredith Wayland, and
Adrienne Visintine all coming around to score. The Eagles made it 5-3 game in the bottom of the second with a three-run bomb of their own. The 'Dawgs answered with a Tineo homerun in the fourth, followed by a Visintine grand slam in the fifth to make it 10-3. NCCU tallied one in the fifth and another in the final frame, but it was Gardner-Webb adding four more runs in the sixth to win the game by run rule.
"The offense was great this weekend.", said coach Wigness. "We have been waiting all year to see this type of offensive consistency throughout an entire weekend. We are going to keep working to continue that on into conference play. Our pitching was good, defense made plays. Adrienne Vistintine hit the ball hard this weekend. She missed the fall rehabbing an injury and is just now starting to get her rhythm back. This weekend was a great sign and just a small glimpse into the type of player she is. I expect great things from her the rest of the year."
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to the field on March 12 to take on Furman University. Their scheduled doubleheader will begin at 4:00 p.m.
