BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team dropped their series finale against Longwood University on Sunday afternoon by a final of 4-0. The 'Dawgs tallied a trio of hits in the ballgame.
Andrea Lyon kept the Lancer lineup quiet until they broke through in the fourth with a single down the left field line scoring one. Longwood was able to get three home on a long double in the fifth inning. The 'Dawgs threw the batter out as she tried to take third, but the runs still made it home.
"Game one was great," said coach Wigness. "We played well on all sides of the balls. Games 2 and 3 we struggled both offensively and defensively, we can't win games consistently like that. I thought we hit the ball hard at times and they just made some great plays but overall we weren't consistent enough with being a tough out. We have to take care of business next weekend against Winthrop. We'll be working on stopping the short game this week defensively and stringing together more quality at bats."
Gardner-Webb will continue Big South play on Saturday, March 23 when they play a doubleheader to start a three-game series at Winthrop University.
