ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team dropped their series opener against Winthrop University on Saturday evening by a final score of 2-1. The Runnin' Bulldogs got one across on five hits in the contest before dropping the game on a seventh inning walk off.
The game saw a duo of great pitching performances by
Andrea Lyon and Winthrop's Reese Basinger. The Eagles got on the board in the third inning taking a 1-0 lead on an infield single. It was not until the top of the seventh inning that the 'Dawgs were able to tie the game on a single from
Adrienne Visintine to score
Maura Pendleton. The Eagles ultimately scored the game winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh walking it off.
Gardner-Webb will return the field on Sunday March, 24 when they play a doubleheader to close out the three-game series at Winthrop. First pitch of game-one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
