MONTREAT, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb track and field team opened its spring outdoor season at Pulliam Stadium on the campus of Montreat College over the weekend as the Runnin' Bulldogs competed on Friday and Saturday in the Montreat Open.
Overall, the Dawgs amassed 14 top-five finishes and 10 podium appearances in the two-day meet that featured 33 teams.
Sophomore
TJ Peebles (Lexington, S.C.) highlighted the weekend for Gardner-Webb as he took second place in two events. Peebles was second in the Men's 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.95. The super soph also took second place in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 56.15.
Freshman
Jonathan Timpson (Hildale, UT) also took home a medal as he placed third in the Men's High Jump with a 1.90m (6-02-75).
In the Women's 400m, the Runnin' Bulldogs placed two competitors on the medal podium as junior
Alena Ivanov (London, Ontario, Canada) took home second place in 58.61 while freshman Anna Spencer placed third with a time of 59.15.
Ivanov and Spencer also took home a gold medal as part of the Women's 4X400 Meter Relay team. The duo, along with juniors
Deborah Marlow and
Adrionna Coleman, captured the event in 4:02.47.
Gardner-Webb's second Women's 4X400 Meter Relay team of
Jessica Perriello (Alpharetta, GA),
Teryn Bour (Defiance, Ohio),
Jada Pittman (Jefferson, Ga.) and
Kendall Reece (Boone, NC) also got to the medal podium as they placed third in 4:18.40)
Pittman added a Top Five finish to her weekend as she finished fourth (12.42) in the Women's 100m.
In the field events, the Runnin' Bulldogs took the medal podium in both the Men's and Women's Hammer Throw.
Sophomore Quentin Peterson (McDonough, Ga.) was second in the men's competition with a throw of 54.44m.
On the ladies' side, freshman
Zoie Johnson (Marietta, Ga.) made a throw of 50.01m (164-01) to garner second place while senior
Karmen Taylor (Moncks Corner, S.C.) placed third with a throw of 48.46m (159-00).
Senior
Madison Boyd also finished in the Top 5 for the Dawgs in the Women's Hammer Throw with a throw of 46.62 (152-11) which was good for a fourth-place finish.
In the Women's Discus Throw, Coleman finished fourth (38.72/127-00) and Taylor fifth (37.78m/123-11) round out the Top 5 performances turned in by the Runnin' Bulldogs over the weekend.
"We had some really good performances this weekend," said Gardner-Webb head track and field coach Greg Thiel. "We're now gearing up for the Raleigh Relays next week."
UP NEXT - Gardner-Webb will be in action next weekend when the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to the campus of North Carolina State University to compete at the Raleigh Relays on Friday (3/29) and Saturday (3/30).
