BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team bested Charleston Southern in their three-game series finale on Saturday by a final score of 6-1. The Runnin' Bulldogs had a pair of big innings that were the difference in the ballgame.
The Buccaneers struck first in the third inning getting one across on an error. Gardner-Webb responded in the bottom of the third as
Adrienne Visintine doubled to score
Jailyn Tineo and
Emily Garcia.
Ella Christopher then flew out to leftfield allowing Vistintine to score on a throwing error.
The 'Dawgs then put up three more in the sixth inning.
Maura Pendleton scored at home on a plate obstruction call, and Christopher reached on a throwing error to home.
Trina Van Dyke then stole home on a double steal attempt.
"Our pitching has been great.", said coach Wigness. "Again, we have to have timely hitting and be able to execute in bunt situations. We did that today. It was a good win. We are capable of doing that all the time. We have dug ourselves in a little bit of a hole in conference play. But if any group can dig themselves out and have a strong finish, it's this team."
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Tuesday, April 2 to play a doubleheader at East Tennessee State University starting at 2:00 p.m.
