Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis Dominates Fairfield 7-0

Runnin' Bulldogs win for second straight day at the Webb Tennis Center to improve to 11-2

Box Score Boiling Springs, N.C.---- For the second-consecutive day, the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team dominated its opponent at the Webb Tennis Center as the Runnin' Bulldogs blanked visiting Fairfield University, 7-0, on Monday.

Gardner-Webb improved to 11-2 on the season. Fairfield, who plays in the Metro Atlantic Conference, falls to 3-7.

In the double's competition, the 'Dawgs No.1 tandem of senior Eduardo Dias (Parana, Brazil) and senior Chrisjan Van Wyk (Pretoria, South Africa) got things rolling in doubles with a victory over Sam Hodges and Thomas Smart, 7-5.

At No.3 doubles, Fairfield picked up a win as the Dawgs freshman duo of Graham Bourne and Johan Van Wijk (Somerset West, South Africa) fell 3-6 to Andrew Immink and Luca Benaibbouch.

Numa Lemieux-Monette (Montreal, Canada) and freshman Jurie Terblanche (Perth, Australia) won 7-6 (-8) to clinch the doubles point on Court No.2 over the Stags duo of Nick Condos and Will O'Brien.

Gardner-Webb held a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

In the singles competition, Gardner-Webb won on courts three, two and one to secure the match.

Lemieux-Monette dominated on Court No.3, 6-0, 6-1 over Keean Shah.

Junior Alex Lepine (Montreal, Canada) continued his outstanding play on Court No.2, winning 6-0, 6-3, over Condos.

Gardner-Webb clinched the match as Dias beat Hodges on Court No.1, 6-2, 6-1.

On Court No.4, junior Kim Niethammer (Harrenburg, Germany), last week's Big South Player of the Week, prevailed 6-3, 6-3 over Alex Aguiar.

On Court No.5, Terblanche won in three sets 6-0, 6-4 over Kostas Kollias and on Court No.6 senior John Spring (Miramar Beach, Fla.) 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-6, prevailed in three sets over Griffin Schlesinger to post a perfect afternoon for Gardner-Webb.

"We've been working really hard on our doubles and its paying off," said Gardner-Webb assistant tennis coach Sebastion Harris, who is in hist first year on the Gardner-Webb coaching staff following a five-season playing career with the Runnin' Bulldogs. "Every day we're getting better and our team is becoming closer."
