BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball defeated the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday night by a final score of 1-0 in eight innings. The game saw extras with no score before the Runnin' Bulldogs were able to pull off the 1-0 walk-off win.
Pitching was the story of the night as both teams got lights out performances in the circle. Gardner-Webb's
Andrea Lyon and
Kalyn Kyle pitched 4.0 innings each registering a combined nine strikeouts with just four hits and no earned runs. Queens' Autumn Courtney went a complete 7.1 innings before letting up the game winning run to the 'Dawgs. In the eighth inning tied 0-0 with the international tiebreaker in affect putting a runner on second base,
Alyssa Bonilla won it for Gardner-Webb singling to second base and bringing home
Annicka McLaughlin.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. this weekend to compete in the Western Carolina Tournament. The 'Dawgs will play five games over of the three-day event.
