CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team defeated the tournament hosting Catamounts of Western Carolina University 13-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied eight runs in the fifth inning to close out the win via run rule.
Gardner-Webb got on the board in the first frame of the ballgame as
Taylor Dreher scored
Andrea Lyon, and
Ella Christopher singled to score Dreher and Araceli Pasqueira to make it 3-0.
Jailyn Tineo and
Annicka McLaughlin made it home in the fourth off a
Adrienne Visintine double to make it a 5-0 lead. The 'Dawgs really broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning scoring eight to go up 13-0. Western Carolina tallied two in the bottom frame before Gardner-Webb closed it out for the run rule victory.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will wrap up play in the Western Carolina Tournament on Sunday, March 10 against North Carolina Central at 12:30 p.m.
