N.C. – The Gardner-Webb Track & Field squad was back at it again over the weekend (Friday 4/19 & Saturday 4/20), competing at the 17
th Annual Catamount Classic Invitational.
The 16-team event was held at the Catamount Athletics Complex on the campus of host Western Carolina University.
The Runnin' Bulldogs came away with three events wins, as well as 17 Top 5 overall finishes.
Gardner-Webb swept the medals in the Women's Discus Throw, led by junior
Adrionna Coleman (42.86m/140-37), who paced the field with a new personal-best toss.
Senior
Karmen Taylor (41.97m/137.08) took second place in the Women's Discus Throw while sophomore
Madison Boyd (39.40m/129-03) placed third for the Dawgs with her new personal-best.
Boyd (51.86m/170-01) captured the Hammer Throw for the Runnin' Bulldogs while Taylor (51.39m/168-07) was right behind her in second place.
Another highlight of the women's competition for the Dawgs was freshman Isa vanSintemaartensdijk, who finished in second place in the Women's Javelin Throw with a new school-record toss of 42.27 (138-08).
Freshman
Teandra Clemons finished second (11.47m/37-07.75) in the Women's Triple Jump, while sophomore
Jada Pittman (5.63m/18-05-75) placed third in the Women's Long Jump.
In the women's track events, sophomore
Jessica Perriello placed third in the Women's 800 Meter for the Dawgs with a new school-record of 2:15.36.
In the Women's 400, Gardner-Webb took home two medals as junior
Alena Ivanov (57.83) finished second and freshman Anna Spencer (58.08) placed third.
Rounding out the Top 5 performances on the lady's side for Gardner-Webb was junior
Isabela Castillo (1:07.50), who was fifth in the Women's 400m Hurdles.
The Dawgs 4x400 Meter Relay Team of Ivanov,
Deborah Marlow, Spencer, and
Teryn Bour also finished fifth with a time of 4:03.54.
On the men's side for Gardner-Webb, it was another outstanding performance from sophomore Quentin Peterson, who turned in a gold-medal-winning outing for the Dawgs in the Men's Hammer throw.
Peterson's first place-winning toss of 59.82m (196-03) puts him No.6 on the school's all-time list.
Peterson also turned in a third-place, medal-winning performance in the Men's Shot Put with a toss of 17.09m (56-01.00).
Rounding out the medal winners for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the field events was junior Jacoby Jacobson, who placed third in the Men's Discus throw with a toss of 48.67 (159-08).
In the men's track events, sophomore
DJ Black came in second in the Men's 400 meter with a time of 50.19.
Sophomore
TJ Peebles round out the Gardner-Webb medalists as he also finished second in the Men's 110m Hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.73.
