FARMVILLE, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University women's lacrosse team dropped their final game of the season against Longwood University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 12-11. The Lancers had to score three fourth quarter goals to get the win.
Emma Duchscherer tallied the first two goals for GWU at 13:36 and 8:53 in the first. Longwood responded with two in the first to tie it up before taking the lead at 13:49 in the second.
Jamie Weber tied it back up 3-3 with 12:10 left in the second. Longwood took a brief lead shortly after before GWU scored three.
Taylor Tobin (9:42), and
Rebecca Ferrina (7:55, 3:39) found the back of the net for those three before Longwood scored with one second left in the period making it 6-5 at the break.
Duchscherer and
Reese Jones scored first in the third quarter to make it 8-6 'Dawgs. The Lancers responded with three to take lead back before Duschscherer and Ferrina each scored again putting GWU back on top 10-9 going into the fourth.
Gardner-Webb tallied their final goal of the game with 14:01 left in the game off the stick of Duchscherer for her fifth goal of the game. With GWU lead 11-9, Longwood went on to score three goals in the fourth including the winning one with 2:24 left. The Lancers ultimately hung on to the one-goal lead until the final horn.
