RADFORD, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University baseball team defeated Radford University 4-3 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon taking the series two out of three. The Highlanders tied the game late before
Alec Burns took them deep in extras.
Gardner-Webb put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning with
Peter Capobianco hitting a two-run home run. Lawson knight followed it up with a sac bunt that brought home
Matt Ilgenfritz.
The 'Dawgs held the 3-0 lead all the way into the bottom of the ninth where the Highlanders tied the game with a pair of doubles, and a wild pitch.
With the game tied three all in the first frame of extras, Burns hit a solo shot to left field putting GWU ahead 4-3.
Josh Gentile then closed things down for the 'Dawgs earning the save.
Devin Pressley got the win, and Carter Seabrooke the loss.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return home on Friday, May 3 for the first of a three-game non-conference series against Wofford College at 6:00 p.m. The second game of the series on Saturday, May 4 will be at Wofford, and the third on Sunday, May 5 will be back in Boiling Springs.
