RADFORD, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team swept a doubleheader at Radford University on Saturday afternoon as games one and two of a three-game Big South weekend series. The Runnin' Bulldogs took the first game 9-7 and the second 9-1 in five innings.
In impressive fashion, the 'Dawgs came back from down 6-0 in the first game starting in the third with
Emily Garcia reaching home and
Ella Christopher homering to score three making it 6-4. They tied the game in the fourth with a SAC fly from
Alyssa Bonilla and a single from
Adrienne Visintine. After losing the lead briefly in the bottom of the fourth, GWU scored one run per inning the rest of the game with Visintine and Tayler Dreher hitting solo shots.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took their offensive momentum straight into the second game of the series breaking through in the fourth inning to put up seven.
Kayleigh Nicholson and Christopher both hit homeruns in the frame.
Annicka McLaughlin and Visintine hit singles in the fifth ending the game in favor of the 'Dawgs 9-1 via run rule.
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Sunday, April 7 to wrap up the series with the Highlanders at 1:00 p.m.
