RADFORD, Va. – The Gardner-Webb University softball team was bested in their three-game series finale at Radford on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 13-5.
The Runnin' Bulldogs put up three runs in the opening frame with
Andrea Lyon and
Taylor Dreher singling and
Ella Christopher bringing in
Adrienne Visintine in between. Christopher tallied another RBI in the third inning. The bottom of the third saw Radford put up three more to tie the game 4-4.
Gardner-Webb took a brief 5-4 lead in the fourth inning with
Maura Pendleton scoring on a fielder's choice.
Following a sac fly to tie it at five in the fourth inning, Radford went on to eight runs in the sixth inning to end the game via run rule.
"Great series win.", said coach Wigness. It's tough to win on the road. It was a good sign to see the bats get going in conference. We need to carry that into the remainder of the schedule. We have an uphill battle but as long as there are games on the schedule and outs on the board we are going to fight."
Gardner-Webb will return to the field on Tuesday, April 16 to host a doubleheader against Western Carolina University starting at 3:00 p.m.
