SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Incarnate Word on Sunday evening inside Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
Junior
Elias Khodri posted his second score of the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs while contributing a game-high five shots.
Khodri and the Runnin' Bulldogs were on the attack early in the first half but could not push across the game's initial score.
Caio Hughes was presented the first great look at goal in the 35
th minute but his strike was reeled in by the UIW keeper.
The start of the second mirrored the first 45 as the two defenses stood tall. However, that changed in the 60
th minute as Khodri went solo with the go-ahead goal. Unfortunately, that lead lasted only 15 minutes as the Cardinal came back with the equalizer following an unlucky own goal by GWU.
The remainder of the contest was uneventful as the two teams combined for just a pair of shots, eventually battling to a 1-1 tie.
Gardner-Webb returns to the pitch on Sunday, September 1 as it hosts the Bulldogs of Barton College. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
