SALEM, VA - The Gardner-Webb University track and field team began the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule on Friday and Saturday, competing in the Finn Pincus Invitational
For the weekend, the Runnin' Bulldogs saw seven athletes set top-10 times in school history, while also posting multiple top-five finishes at the meet as well.
For Gardner-Webb, Gabe Morrison finished the men's 600-meters with a time of 1:28.74 and good for sixth place overall. In addition, Morrison posted the sixth fastest time in the event in school history.
Jessica Perriello had perhaps one of the best weekends of any Gardner-Webb athlete, outright winning the women's 1000-meter race. Perriello recorded a time of 3:01.61 for the third best time in school history in the event. In the same event, the Runnin' Bulldogs also took second place as Emily Leatherman posted the sixth best time ever for GWU, 3:06.42
The Runnin' Bulldogs grabbed another top spot and another record in the women's 300 meter race. Anna Spencer won the event with a time of 43.31 while
Deborah Marlow came second, with a time of 43.51. In third was also GWU, as
Kendall Reece PR'd with a time of 43.81
Alena Ivanov also managed one of the best individual weekends for Gardner-Webb, with a second in the women's 600-meter after crossing the line in 1:43.45
Noah Meadows was excellent for the 'Dawgs with second place in the men's 300-meters. Meadows time of 35.01 is good for the second-best time ever by a GWU athlete in the event.
In the men's long jump event, Josh Powell shined for the Runnin' Bulldogs with the school's third best time ever. Powell put down a distance of 7.28 meters, good for a second place finish. Powell also scored a third place finish in the men's triple jump behind a distance of 13.55 meters
Lastly,
Quentin Peterson recorded one of the best showings ever for GWU in men's shot put. Peterson not only put down a school-record 18.22 meters but also won the event with ease for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
