Runnin' Bulldogs Back In Action at Fifth Annual Brant Tolsma Invitational

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Gardner-Webb University track and field team was right back in action on January 24th and 25th at Liberty University, putting together a string of impressive results at the fifth annual Brant Tolsma Invitational

For the Runnin' Bulldogs, junior Jessica Perriello followed up her record setting weekend at the Finn Pincus Invitational with another outstanding run. The Alpharetta, Ga. native placed fourth in the women's 800 meter finals, logging a time of 2:16. Perriello also ran the women's 4x400 meter relay, where she provided the fastest split of the four-athlete team, with a time of 1:00.473. Freshman Emily Leatherman also made it to the women's 800 meter finals, putting a time of 2:20.34 on the board.

Over in the women's weight throw, sophomore Zoie Johnson put together a top-five showing in the final round of competition. Johnson logged a distance of 16.93 meters, good to take fifth place and nearly 0.40 meters ahead of sixth place. Junior Madison Boyd also took part in the event, recording 15.33 while Selah Holcombe put fourth an 11.69 for the 'Dawgs.

The Runnin' Bulldogs pitted two sides in the previously mentioned 4x400 meter relay, with the quartet of senior Deborah Marlow, sophomore Anna Spencer, junior Traci Cross, and senior Teryn Bour bringing home fifth with a time of 3:59.03. Cross managed the quickest split of the four, with a time of 59.026 in her section of the relay. The team of Perriello, Leatherman and freshmen Hope Smith and Gabrielle Comery placed 13th in the same event with a time of 4:07.28

Sophomore Nathan Cremin continued a good individual 2024-25, placing fifth for Gardner-Webb in the men's 1000 meter race. Cremin crossed the line in 2:34.25, just ahead of sixth place by 0.29 seconds

Freshman Joshua Powell managed to make his way into the finals of the men's long jump, where the Spanish Fort, Al. native placed 12th. Powell recorded a distance of 6.68 meters as the lone representative from GWU in the event finals, joining a list of Runnin' Bulldogs to follow up successful weekends from Roanoke the previous meet. Powell was also 12th in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.48 recorded.

In men's shot put, junior Quentin Peterson followed up his record-setting performance at the Finn Pincus Invitational with another top tier showing. Peterson topped the charts with a distance of 17.02 meters to take another individual victory. In the same event, freshman Magnum Chestnut placed sixth for GWU behind a distance of 15.17 meters.

Peterson also continued on to the men's weight throw, where the McDonough, Ga. native placed second behind 18.46 meters and just narrowly missing a second trip to the top of the podium. Also in men's weight throw, senior Jacoby Johnson placed seventh after recording 15.47 meters while sophomore Devin Redd (14.33 meters), freshman Jonathan Garrett (14.03 meters) and graduate Luke Gordy (12.50 meters) also competed
