CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Official from the league office, the Gardner-Webb University men's basketball team's upcoming away game at UNC Asheville has been picked as part of the Big South ESPNU Wild Card Series, and will now be played on Thursday night, February 6th at 9 p.m.
The Big South Conference match-up, originally scheduled for the previous day, will now move one day later to accommodate a national television time slot. This will be the Runnin' Bulldogs 13th all-time appearance on ESPNU as part of the Wild Card Series, with GWU holding an 8-4 record across the previous contests. Across those 13 games, Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville have met twice, with the 'Dawgs scoring an 81-76 win in February of 2017 and a 61-55 victory in January of 2022
The two teams enter the February 6th contest off the back of a narrow 61-53 UNC Asheville win in Boiling Springs on January 22nd, as both teams continue to vie for positioning in a competitive Big South Conference.
This is the 12th year of the Big South's ESPNU Wildcard series, which again features six Thursday primetime broadcasts. A total of 55 games have been played in the series that began in 2013-14, and while the home teams are 35-20, the 55 contests have been decided by an average of 9.55 points, with 31 (56.4 percent) of those being decided by single-digits.
