Men's Soccer Falls to No. 8 High Point 3-0

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (11-2-2, 4-1-1) men's soccer team was handed a 3-nil loss at the hands of visiting No. 8 High Point (10-1-3, 6-0-0) on Saturday evening inside Greene Harbison Stadium.

The Panthers notched a goal in the first half before posting two more after the halftime intermission while handing GWU its first conference loss in two seasons. Gardner-Webb controlled the shots advantage 12-8, including 6-5 shots on goal, but could not push anything past the HPU keeper.

Gardner-Webb missed on several key opportunities over the first 45 after a trio of shots glanced off the crossbar. The Panthers took advantage of the misfortune, scoring the game's first goal in the 21st minute. However, the Dawgs looked poised to knot the score with less than 10 seconds to go in the period, but a penalty kicked was saved by Josh Caron.

Scores in the 55th and 74th minutes by Daniel Lugo and Jefferson Amaya put the match out of reach.

Gardner-Webb will return to the pitch on Saturday, November 1, traveling to take on UNC Asheville in the regular season finale. Kickoff for that contest is slated for 2 p.m.
