SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 23 Gardner-Webb (9-1-1, 3-0) men's soccer team is set to return to action on Tuesday, October 7 as it steps out of conference to take on Wofford College (5-5-1, 1-0) from the SoCon.
This contest marks the 28th all-time meeting between the Runnin' Bulldogs and Terriers with the series in favor of Wofford, 17-9-1. Wofford picked up a 3-2 win in Spartanburg last season.
Gardner-Webb is coming off a 2-0 win over Longwood on Friday, October 3. The Dawgs received one goal in each half from Samson Kpardeh and Jaylen Orr, respectively, while riding a stellar defense to their eighth clean sheet of the season.
Orr and Robbie Lyons lead the Runnin' Bulldogs with five goals while Lyons has added four assists on the season. Teammate Breno Correia has also chipped in four helpers. Javan Ochieng has scored four goals as GWU is outscoring their opponents 24-6 through 11 games. Alan Horrocks has played all 990 minutes in goal, producing eight clean sheets and 27 saves.
Wofford is coming into the contest with a 5-5-1 overall record and 1-0 mark in league play. Unbeaten in their last three matches, the Terriers last tasted defeat on September 20 with a 3-2 decision against Campbell. Gardner-Webb will be the fifth Big South team to face the Terriers this season as Wofford has a 2-2 record in the previous four encounters.
The Terriers are led by Nathan Simes, who has a team-high seven goals while adding three assists. Kalle Rahbeck leads Wofford with five assists. For the year, WC is being outscored 20-17. Pepe Hinterschuster has played all minutes in goal for the Terriers, collecting 36 saves and two shutouts.
