NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb football team (6-4, 4-2 OVC/Big South) hits the road on Saturday, November 15 to take on Tennessee State (2-8, 0-6) in an OVC/Big South matchup inside Nissan Stadium.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are seeking their second 7-win season in three seasons. However, Tennessee State leads the all-time series against GWU, 2-0, with both games being decided by a field goal or less.
Gardner-Webb's defense has hit its stride following an 11-sack performance last week versus Southeast Missouri State. That mark tied the Association single-game record which the Runnin' Bulldogs set just last year. The Dawgs allowed only 4 net yards rushing to the Redhawks while finishing with 14 tackles for loss, the fourth fewest allowed in the Association.
Graduate running back Quasean Holmes ranks second in the OVC/Big South with 796 rushing yards while fellow back Carson Gresock sits atop the league with 12 rushing touchdowns, a mark that also ranks ninth in FCS.
The Tigers are looking for their third-straight win over Gardner-Webb, having won last year's contest, 230-20 as well as a 27-25 win in the first game of the series in 2023. Tennessee State is seeking its third overall win and first win in conference play.
Freshman quarterback Byron McNair has thrown for 1,232 yards and seven scores but has been picked off six times this season. Kendric Rhymes leads the ground game with 403 yards and three scores while Devaughn Slaughter has caught a team-high 37 passes for 431 yards and three touchdowns.
Saturday's contest will be aired on ESPN+ while live stats and radio links can be found on the Gardner-Webb football schedule page at www.gwusports.com.
