Runnin' Bulldogs Take Care of Toccoa Falls, 105-65

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Junior guard Curtis Williams III scored a team-high 20 points while the Gardner-Webb (2-12) men's basketball team eclipsed the century mark for the first time this season, taking down visiting Toccoa Falls (2-6) by the final of 105-65 on Thursday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the contest with six players in double figures, including four of their five starters. Coming off the bench, redshirt junior DJ Jefferson totaled 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting in only eight minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Jacob Hudson flirted with a triple-double after chipping in 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Sophomore guard Colin Hawkins finished a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor while adding 14 points. Freshman guard Spence Sims tallied 13 points and sophomore forward Jacob Hogarth posted 10 points.

Gardner-Webb had its best shooting performance of the season, knocking down 41-of-66 shots (62%), adding eight makes from distance and a 15-for-21 clip from the charity stripe. The glass belonged to the Dawgs after GWU held a 42-23 advantage on the glass.

The first half was evenly contested as neither team could maintain a healthy advantage. Hot shooting allowed Gardner-Webb to take a 39-32 advantage into the halftime break.

Following the brief hiatus, the game belonged completely to the Runnin' Bulldogs. Sims drilled one of his three triples at the 18:34 mark of the second half while giving GWU its first double-digit lead of the game, 43-32. Toccoa Falls tried to hang around but the size and speed of the Dawgs proved too stiff a test.

Leading by single digits, Gardner-Webb used a 26-7 run midway through the period, ballooning the lead to 71-43 with 10 minutes to play. From that point, the game was all academic with the Runnin' Bulldogs cruising to the 40-point win.

Gardner-Webb hits the road for its next contest, traveling to Knoxville for a showdown with No. 20 Tennessee. Tip for that contest is set for 3 p.m. and will air on SECN+.
