Runnin' Bulldogs Fall at Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four different players posted double figure scoring, but it was not enough as the Gardner-Webb (0-10) men's basketball team dropped a 107-74 contest at Queens (4-5) on Wednesday evening inside Curry Arena.

Fresh off his third Big South Freshman of the Week honor, Spence Sims led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from distance. Jacob Hogarth and Ace Talbert also contributed 15 points each while Curtis Williams III added 13. Hogarth and Williams pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

Sims nailed a three on the Dawgs first possession, knotting the score at 3-all less than a minute into the first half. However, Queens used a 13-4 run over the next five minutes while taking a nine-point advantage.

Williams knocked down a three of his own, trimming the deficit to 21-15, but the Royals scored 15 of the next 17 points, pushing the lead out to 36-17 with 7:22 on the clock. The remainder of the half was back and forth as Queens took a 52-37 lead into halftime.

Gardner-Webb was able to cut the gap to 10 at 70-60 in the second half before a 10-0 burst by the Royals gave the home team a comfortable margin. From that point, the game was all academic as Queens maintained a comfortable lead before notching a final score victory of 107-74.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the friendly confines of Paul Porter Arena on Saturday, December 6 while playing host to Georgia Southern. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
