LYNCHBURG, VA - The Gardner-Webb University track and field teams were back in action on Friday and Saturday afternoon, competing in the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University
The women's 500-meter proved to be one of the best races of the weekend early on for Gardner-Webb, with the 'Dawgs taking three top-15 finishes. Senior
Teryn Bour led the way behind a time of 1:17.45 and in ninth place, and just ahead of teammate
Jessica Perriello in 10th with a time of 1:17.56. Freshman Emily Leatherman clocked in at 1:19.07 for 14th overall.
Freshman
Hope Smith and senior
Alena Ivanov provided a nice outing for Gardner-Webb in the women's 300 meters, with a pair of solid times. Smith was 17th overall, across the line in 41.29 seconds while Ivanov clocked a 41.54 seconds, good for 21st. Ivanov and Smith also competed in the women's 400 meters with Ivanov scoring a time of 59.19 seconds, while Smith finished in 1:00.95 for the 'Dawgs
One of the best individual performances came from sophomore Teandra Clemmons in the women's triple jump. Clemmons managed sixth place overall in finals, with a distance of 12.00 meters even. Clemmons competed for GWU in the women's long jump as well, putting a distance of 5.45 meters up on the board.
Gardner-Webb also performed well in the men's 300 meter with a pair of top-15 finishes. Senior
Noah Meadows crossed the stripe in 35:05 for 11th, while GWU teammate
Nico Wright-Phillips came in 13th with a time of 35.98. Meadows was also in the men's long jump, putting a distance of 6.94 meters on the board.
Sophomore
Nathan Cremin put forth maybe the best result for a Gardner-Webb track athlete however, with a second place run in the men's 500 maters. Cremin crossed the line at 1:03.75, just 0.04 behind the top spot. Competing for GWU in the same event was senior
Ryan Morita who finished 17th with a time of 1:07.39 and senior
Mark Mellon, who in 21st crossed the stripe in 1:12.09
In men's shot put, junior
Quentin Peterson continued a stellar season with another first place finish. Peterson went for a distance of 18.12 meters to take the win for Gardner-Webb. Peterson was also seventh in the men's weight throw with a distance of 17.75 meters. Freshman Magnum Chestnut also put up a solid performance in the same event, with a distance of 14.84 meters good for 19th overall.
Junior
Adrionna Coleman shined for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's shot put, with a 12th place finish in finals. Coleman recorded a distance of 13.20 meters.
After a busy weekend, the Runnin' Bulldogs turn attention to the Big South Indoor Championships, set to begin on February 28th and continuing through March 1st
