CLINTON, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb (10-19, 5-10) men's basketball team ended the regular season with a 68-57 loss at Presbyterian (14-17, 7-9) on Saturday afternoon inside the Ross E. Templeton Center.
Senior forward Isaiah Richards led the Runnin' Bulldogs with his third double-double of the season, tallying 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Graduate guard Anthony Selden was the only other player to eclipse double-digit scoring, pouring in 11.
After the two teams traded the initial 22 points, Presbyterian went on an 8-2 run while building a 19-13 lead more than halfway through the opening half. Graduate forward Jamaine Mann pulled the 'Dawgs to within three, 19-16, with a jumper at the 8:07 mark, but PC used a 19-8 run over the final eight minutes to control the game 38-24 at the half.
A dunk by Kaleb Scott pushed the Blue Hose advantage out to 44-26 before a 9-2 spurt by the Runnin' Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 46-35 with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.
However, Presbyterian was able to run the margin back to 16 on a pair of occasions before a late Gardner-Webb run closed the gap to single digits, 63-54, with less than two to play. That would be as close as GWU would come as PC finished the game scoring five of the final eight points.
Gardner-Webb will now enter the 2025 Big South Men's Basketball Championship as the No. 8 seed and will play No. 9 seed USC Upstate on Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Johnson City, Tenn.
