Runnin' Bulldogs Shine at Day Two of Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb University track and field team wrapped up its stay along the South Carolina cost on Saturday afternoon, with a solid day two at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge

Fresh off a recording breaking 4x200 run on Friday, sophomore Nico Phillips and senior Noah Meadows finished back to back in the men's 200 meter race. Phillips placed seventh with a time of 22.10 seconds, while Meadows was just behind in eighth with a time of 22.22 seconds.

Sophomore Nathan Cremin posted one of the best individual performances of the day for Gardner-Webb in the men's 400 meter race. Cremin crossed the line in third with a time of 48.60 seconds.

Junior Jessica Perriello was back on the track after a successful indoor season, continuing right along with a first place run in the women's 1500 meters. Perriello crossed the line to win the event in 4:40.

The freshman duo of Emily Leatherman and Megan Devanny were outstanding for GWU in the women's 3000 meter race. Leatherman was scored in second with a time of 10:44 to finish in second while Devanny made it to the finish in 10:59 to take fourth.

Gardner-Webb made it a double in discus throw, winning both the men's and women's event. Big South Indoor champion junior Quentin Peterson won the men's event with a 53.27 meters, while sophomore Zoie Johnson took first place in the women's with a 48.19 meters. Senior Adrionna Coleman also posted a solid finish in the women's event, fourth place by way of 42.70 meters.

In the women's 200 meter race, freshman Hope Smith set a new personal best mark in the midst of a solid finish for Gardner-Webb. Smith crossed the line in 25.78 seconds, good for 11th place overall.

The Runnin' Bulldogs also had a couple solid runs in the women's 400 meter race. Senior Alena Ivanov was 12th with a time of 57.90 seconds, while sophomore Anna Spencer was 14th with a time of 58.09 seconds.

Gardner-Webb Track and Field will return to action in Columbia, S.C. on March 21st and 22nd, competing in the Weems Baskin Invitational at the University of South Carolina.
