Runnin' Bulldogs Fall 5-1 in Rubber Match Versus Radford

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb (15-22, 5-7) baseball team dropped the rubber game of its series with Radford (16-19, 5-7) by the final of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Masters Field.

The Highlanders took the early lead following a solo homerun by Tyler Kehoe in the top of the third before doubling their lead after James Ward drove in JK Perez on a fielder's choice in the visiting half of the sixth.

Hunter Keen and Ward pushed the score to 4-0 in favor of Radford in the eighth. Gardner-Webb was finally able to break through on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the eighth following an opposite field solo homerun off the bat of Matt Ilgenfritz.

However, the Highlanders tacked on an insurance run in the ninth before the Runnin' Bulldogs went quietly in their final frame, dropping game three and the series, 5-1.

The 'Dawgs will step out of conference for their next contest, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C. to face the Fighting Camels of Campbell University on Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m.
