Runnin' Bulldogs Fall 5-0 to College of Charleston on Thursday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team was back in action on Thursday night, suffering a 5-0 defeat on the road at the College of Charleston

The Runnin' Bulldogs got off to a slow start at College of Charleston on Thursday night, with the hosts largely in control of the possession and the shots. Senior goalkeeper Savannah Dixon was excellent early in turning away the Bears, with a pair of early saves. Senior forward Kaitlyn Huff posted the first shot of the game in between for GWU in the 5th minute, forcing a save.

Charleston broke through scoring both in the 13th and 15th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. GWU responded well despite the deficit however, with senior midfielder Peyton Bryant and freshman midfielder Katie Stefanovski finding space for shots in the following minutes.

Despite a couple late chances for GWU, including Stefanovski for a third time, Charleston added a third goal in the 36th minute, eventually taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Charleston added two goals late, once in the 71st minute and once in the 85th minute, to complete a 5-0 score by the final whistle. Gardner-Webb added a couple late shots, including through freshman Taryn Pekala

Stefanovski with a team-high two shots in 50 minutes, while five other GWU players recorded at least one shot. Dixon made nine saves for the Runnin' Bulldogs, her second most in a game this season, following her eight at Elon from late August
