Runnin' Bulldogs Close Out Non-Conference Play With Trip to Athens

ATHENS, Ohio – The Gardner-Webb football team (2-1, 0-0 OVC/Big South) is set to conclude non-conference play on Saturday, September 20 as it travels to Athens to face the Bobcats of Ohio (1-2, 0-0 MAC).

SERIES HISTORY WITH OHIO

The Bobcats and the Runnin' Bulldogs have met three times since 2007, with Ohio holding a 3-0 record. The pair last met in 2016; Ohio won, 37-21. 

SCOUTING OHIO

The Bobcats are currently 1-2, coming off a 37-9 loss at the hands of No. 1 Ohio State (Sept. 13). As a team, they average 19.0 points, 150 rushing yards, and 199 passing yards per contest.

Graduate Parker Navarro and redshirt senior Nick Poulos have both seen action at quarterback for the Bobcats. Navarro leads the duo with 580 passing yards to go along with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Poulos has completed 4-of-8 passes for 19 yards.

On the ground, Navarro and redshirt senior running back Sieh Bangura lead the team with 220 and 182 yards, respectively. Each have scored one touchdown on the season while Navarro is averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

Junior wide receiver Chase Hendricks has scored two receiving touchdowns on 20 catches while totaling 312 yards. Redshirt senior wide receiver Max Rodarte is number two on the team with six receptions for 87 yards. Redshirt junior tight end Jake Bruno has caught four passes on the year, two going for scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, Ohio's opponents average 27 points, 148 rushing, and 259 passing yards per game. Senior safety Adonis Williams Jr. leads the team with 23 total tackles, 15 of the solo variety. Redshirt junior linebacker Michael Molnar has added 20 tackles while redshirt sophomore safety DJ Walker is second on the team with 14 solo stops. Redshirt junior defensive lineman Anas Luqman is responsible for two of the team's six sacks and leads the team with three tackles for loss. Three players have one interception each.

Redshirt sophomore kicker Brack Peacock is 2-for-3 on field goal attempts with a long of 44 yards while redshirt freshman kicker David Dellenbach has made all four of his PAT attempts this season.
