BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The No. 13 Gardner-Webb men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 3 as it heads to Morgantown, W. Va. to face the Mountaineers of No. 6 West Virginia in a clash of top 20 teams. This contest marks the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are off to their first 3-0 start since the 2009 season after taking down Drexel (4-0), James Madison (1-0), and Davidson (2-1), all of which came away from Greene Harbison Stadium.
Senior forward Jaylen Orr leads the way for the Dawgs, posting three goals to go along with an assist for seven total points. Newcomer Samson Kpardeh picked up his first goal as a member of the Runnin' Bulldogs in the win at Davidson. He has also tallied a pair of assists.
Gardner-Webb has outshot its opponents 40-24, including 21-10 shots on goal. Senior goalie Alan Horrocks is off to a tremendous start to the 2025 campaign, allowing just one score in 270 minutes. His streak of 266 consecutive minutes not conceding a goal is a personal best.
The Mountaineers come into the contest with a 2-0-1 mark after wins over Manhattan (5-2) and La Salle (4-0) to begin the season. In its last outing, West Virginia battled to a scoreless draw with No. 16 Akron, the first road contest of 2025.
Marcus Caldeira paces the Mountaineers with three goals and three assists, making starts in each game. Pablo Pozos is tied for the team lead with three scores while four players are tied with two assists each. WVU has assisted on 9-of-13 goals.
Marc Bonnaire has gone the distance in goal all three games for West Virginia, holding a 0.714 save percentage with five total saves.
